Before starting a fire risk assessment, you should check if one has already been completed and by who. This risk assessment may have been approved under other fire safety licensing or building legislation. If this is the case it is very likely that the Fire Risk Assessment will have been completed by or in consultation with the fire authority or building control.
Regardless if a previous Fire Risk assessment is available, you can still carry out an assessment. The layout of use of the building may have changed since the last assessment so ensuring it is up to date is important. It will also include numbers of people present any work activities carried out.
Your risk assessment may show few to no changes needed, it may show that significant work is required. The previous risk assessment may use of of date regulations or precautions. The local fire authority may be able to help if you are unsure, or you can contact us and we will be happy to talk you through your options.
