Fire Extinguishers

Class A fire extinguishers for use in your property offer extinguishing protection from solid material fires, which could be fuelled by items such as paper, fabrics or wood. These fires should only be fought if they are waste paper basket size and you should raise the alarm to help protect others in the vicinity

A Class D Fire Extinguisher is designed for fires involving burning metals. Burning metals can include magnesium, titanium, and aluminium. Note that by using an incorrect extinguisher you may find that the fire’s severity may increase even further.

When you have flammable liquids on your premises you will require a Class B fire extinguisher. Class B extinguishers help protect against fires that are fuelled by combustible liquids such as petrol, diesel and other oil-based products. If in doubt, raise the alarm and get out.

If you are dealing with a fire that involves an electrical device it is essential that you use a fire extinguisher specifically designed for electrical fires. Electrical fires can range from fires fuelled by kitchen appliances to those fuelled by industrial equipment.

If your business has any type of flammable gas present you will need to have Class C fire extinguishers. Flammable gases that Class C protect against include butane, propane and methane. No matter what your business premises contains you will need at least two fire extinguishers per floor.

Found in businesses preparing food products, such as cafés, restaurants, hotels and factories, Class F Extinguishers are designed for use when cooking oils or fats are involved. Suitable for fires involving olive oil, maize oil, lard and butter.
