“I watched Andrew from 4,000 miles away in Florida using the remote monitoring on our Keyways CCTV system. As far as I could see he did a FAB job, the best we have ever had done on our driveway gates.”

CHOOSE THE EXPERTS FOR YOUR FIRE PROTECTION

Unrivalled protection from cutting edge equipment

We have been installing fire alarms in Manchester for many years and offer a high quality, professional service to all our customers.

To stand out from our competitors, we install processor enhanced detectors as standard. An on-board microprocessor ensures the optimum detector sensitivity is maintained without giving rise to false alarms. Regardless of whether the control system is addressable or not, it gives intelligent detection. Early warning high sensitivity laser systems are ideal for critical applications where even trace smoke is unacceptable or in high air flows where traditional smoke sensors are inadequate.

This includes:

Potential hazards that could lead to a fire. For instance, combustible materials too close to a heat source or faulty electrical fittings.

Addressable systems indicate the general area of fault or fire, but they also give pinpoint locations at the control panel, an example of this would be "Loft 2 Top Floor FIRE". This elevates the need to go searching for the fault or fire situation and ensures that vital time is not wasted.

Addressable alarm systems will also give a pre alarm warning, this means an investigation can be started before a full alarm is sounded.

Traditional smoke sensors in hostile environments tend to not be the best solution. HARSH systems are installed when smoke detection is not suited. Traditional alarms in these environments can false activate, a HARSH system will provide effective smoke detection in both dirty and wet environments.

Conventional Fire Alarm System

Conventional fire alarms are wired using a radial method (single legs of cable). These radials wires join the main fire alarm panel and can be fire alarm zones or sounder circuits.

The fire alarm zones are radial circuits monitoring detectors and manual call points, they accommodate multiple detectors and call points.

Sounder circuits are radial circuits controlling fire alarm sounders and Visual Alarm Devices (VADS). The circuits accommodate multiple sounders, however they are generally limited to a sounder’s power consumption, and the output from the panel on each sounder circuit.

Conventional systems are fairly simple. If a fire or fault occurs, it highlights an area (on the specific zone). However. it does not identify precise locations where there could be a fire outbreak or the specific detector registering a fire/fault. It can only identify a zone. This can make fault finding time consuming for fire alarm engineers on a conventional fire alarm system. Repairs to the system can be more costly as a result of this, despite the initial cost of the devices and panel.

As a conventional fire alarm system utilises separate radial circuits for detectors and sounders, installation costs could be more than an addressable system. This is due to the cabling requirements for a conventional fire alarm system. Addressable systems often use less cable.

As conventional fire alarm systems are quite basic, the build cost is less, hence why they can be a cost effective solution for a smaller project. Generally they are cheaper to buy. These fire alarm systems are often used in shops and office settings.

Pros

  • Great for smaller projects
  • Cost effective and simple to use.

Cons

  • Not suited to large projects
  • More cabling
  • Fires and faults shown in zone not exact location.
